Meanwhile, back in our yard, Margy took this photo of a turkey that had come by on Saturday, and decided to take a dirt bath. And, the turkey is back today! We hope it isn’t too lonely–usually we’ve seen turkeys in whole gaggles. I guess there are critters even in yards in the city of Portland. Isn’t it great to have bare patches on the lawn that are just what the turkey ordered?

Summer Solstice at the Ponds 9
From Evergreen Ponds, in honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon. Another photo of the heron on the log… Perhaps it is checking out the frogs under the water?
Summer Solstice at the Ponds 8
More photos from Evergreen Ponds in honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon. This is from a few days ago… the heron was resting its wings, while standing on the dry log.
Summer Solstice at the Ponds 7
Another photo from Evergreen Ponds in honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon. I didn’t even notice this frog for the longest time, it was so well camouflaged in that bed of drifting wood and plants.
Summer Solstice at the Ponds 6
Another photo from Evergreen Ponds in honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon. This heron has taken up residence on the island, and seems to be there every time I visit.
Summer Solstice at the Ponds 5
Another photo from Evergreen Ponds in honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon. These little turtle buddies were hanging out on a dead branch. Most of the interesting stuff seems to happen at the dead branches.

Turtle buddies hanging out.
Summer Solstice at the Pond 4
Another photo from Evergreen Ponds in honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon. The tadpoles, which used to be just dark shapes under the water, are starting to poke their noses out.
Summer Solstice at the Pond 3
Another photo from Evergreen Ponds in honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon. I saw this snowy egret flying over and landing in one pond, and then it moved to a smaller pond to do some fishing.
Summer Solstice at the Pond 2
In honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon, during the day today I am sharing photos of the abundant creatures of Evergreen Ponds. This turtle was scratching around in the grass–making dirt holes–maybe to lay some eggs?
Summer Solstice at the Pond 1
This morning, I walked to Evergreen Ponds, where life abounds. In honor of the summer solstice and strawberry moon, I want to share photos throughout today.
